Char Dham Yatra
Yatra is a Sanskrit word that literally translates to “journey”. It is often translated as pilgrimage, but the term can also be used for any journey or travel. There are many yantra in Hinduism, but the Char Dham Yatra is one of the most popular ones.
The Char Dham Yatra consists of four sites of religious importance in India - Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri. The journey is done over a period of 8 days to make it more manageable for pilgrims. Pilgrims generally start their journey from Rishikesh and travel through Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh before reaching their destination in Garhwal Himalayas near Tibet border.
