Official Name: Island Peak
Locally known as Imja Tse. The name "Island Peak" was given by Eric Shipton in 1951 because it looks like an island in a sea of ice from Dingboche.
Elevation: 6,189 meters (20,305 feet)
It’s a trekking peak but still quite high—above 6,000 meters!
Location: Khumbu region, Nepal
Lies in the Everest region, near the Imja Glacier and Lhotse.
First Ascent: 1953 by a British team
The same year as the first Everest summit—Island Peak was actually a training climb for the expedition.
Difficulty Level: Considered a beginner-friendly climbing peak, but it still requires glacier travel, basic climbing gear (crampons, ropes, ice axe), and physical fitness.
