Windows Update Assistant
If you want to manually update your Windows system to the latest version, Windows Update Assistant is the official Microsoft tool designed for the job. Follow these steps to use it :-
Step 1:- Check Your Current Windows Version
Before using Windows Update Assistant, you should know what version of Windows you're currently running :-
Press Windows+R on your keyboard.
Type winver and press Enter.
A small window will appear showing your Windows version and build number.
Step 2 :- Download the Windows Update Assistant
Visit the official Microsoft page.
Click on the “Update now” button to download the Windows Update Assistant tool.
Step 3 :- Run the Windows Update Assistant
After downloading, double-click the file.
The Windows Update Assistant will open and automatically start checking your system for compatibility.
If your system is eligible, click “Update Now” to proceed.
Step 4 :- Download and Install the Update
Windows Update Assistant will begin downloading the latest Windows update in the background.
Once downloaded, it will verify the files and start the installation process.
This may take anywhere from 30 minutes to over an hour depending on your internet speed and system performance.
Step 5 :- Restart and Finalize the Update
Once the installation is ready, Windows Update Assistant will prompt you to restart your PC.
Save any open files and click “Restart now”.
Your computer may restart several times during the update process.
Step 6 :- Confirm the Update
After the update is complete and your PC restarts, log back in.
Again press Windows+R, type winver, and hit Enter to verify that you are now on the latest Windows version.
Tips When Using Windows Update Assistant
Always back up important files before starting an update.
Plug in your device to ensure it doesn’t shut down during the update.
The process is generally safe and retains your files and apps, but a backup is still recommended.
Make sure you have at least 10–20 GB of free disk space.
