NBA 2K, a virtual basketball game for PC, PS4, Nintendo Switch and Xbox allows players to communicate with and play against strangers and NBA 2K22 MT friends using the game's voice chat feature and online play modes.

Taking off last month via the hashtag #givetheirmoneyback, players reported that a prominent participant in the community called @StepBackRack (who has more than 3,600 Twitch followers and is also known popularly as "Rack") stole hundreds of thousands of dollars from the Australian and New Zealand community, in what is believed to be an investment fraud. Another gamerwas @Raangee who was believed to be involved in the fraud.

YouTuber and streamer Tyceno was the first to bring to light the scam which enticed gamers to pay thousands of dollars believing they make thousands more.

Tyceno claimed that He believes that @StepBackRack was behind a fraudulent pyramid scheme that involved over $200,000 was allegedly taken from Buy 2K22 MT vulnerable and young people who believed they could 'flip their money'.
