Nigeria has been recognized as a “partner country” of the BRICS group of developing economies, as stated by Brazil, the chair of the organization.

South Africa joining in 2010, serving as a counterbalance to the Group of Seven leading industrialized nations.

In the previous year, the bloc brought in Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia, and Cameroon Phone Number List the United Arab Emirates. Saudi Arabia has received an invitation to join. Turkey, Azerbaijan, and Malaysia have submitted formal applications for membership, and several others have shown interest.

Nigeria now becomes the ninth BRICS partner country, joining Belarus, Bolivia, Cuba, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Thailand, Uganda, and Uzbekistan.

“With the world’s sixth-largest population — and Africa’s largest — alongside being one of the continent’s key economies, Nigeria aligns its interests with other BRICS members,” stated Brazil's government in a declaration on Friday.
