Clean Up for CNY With This Handy Cleaning Checklist

Chinese New Year is almost at hand in Singapore! Are you excited about the celebrations ahead? Then you know that your home should be spotless as well. It’s an important tradition for sweeping away the past year’s bad luck and welcoming good fortune ahead.

If you haven’t cleaned yet, don’t fret. Many households do last-minute cleaning as well, oftentimes with the assistance of part-time cleaners from Singapore’s cleaning agencies.

Regardless of whether you’re doing it alone or with hired help, let’s go through our quick spring cleaning checklist to help you finish in time for CNY.

Declutter Every Room First

Before you start the actual cleaning chores, you should get rid of anything that you don’t need any more. These include old clothes and children’s toys from the bedrooms, or expired food and rusty cookware from the kitchen. The fewer items left behind, the easier it is to clean around them.

Dust all Surfaces

The first step to a cleaner home is to dust its surfaces. You’ll want to start from the ceiling and then work your way down so it’s easier to clean the rest from the floor. Don’t forget to wipe your furniture, storage spaces, and decorations too—these can accumulate more dust than you might realise.

Deal With Your Upholstery and Carpets

It’s difficult to completely get rid of the dirt and dust from sofas, rugs, and carpets through brushing or sweeping alone, so you should vacuum them too.

If possible, have them washed or steam-cleaned to kill the germs lurking in about. You might have to hire a house cleaning service for that, though. They have the equipment and cleaning solutions to do a more thorough job.

Replace the Bedding and Curtains

Let’s revitalise your home with a new set of bedding and curtains! Bonus points for you if you use lucky colours like red and gold while avoiding whites and blacks. Now is also a great time to wash or dry-clean your curtains, sheets, and pillowcases so they look fresh again.

Scrub Your Tiles and Grout

Your tiled floors will look unsightly if they have stains and grimy grout lines. You can scrub them clean with a mixture of baking soda and water, but a bleach solution will work better if you’re faced with more stubborn dirt.

Clean Your Appliances and Electronics Too

Home appliances and other devices like your refrigerator, oven, and even television also need a proper deep clean before CNY. Remember to use the appropriate cleaning products, especially when handling electronics. You may want to consider calling an AC technician if you need to have your air conditioner cleaned as well.

Don’t Forget Miscellaneous Spots

Your oft-neglected areas require attention too, so be sure not to overlook them during the cleanup. These include the tops of shelves and cabinets, under the beds and furniture, window sills, and your ceiling fans.

Get Your Family Involved in the Chores

There’s no need to make spring cleaning a solo endeavour, so have family help out with various chores. It makes for a productive bonding activity for everyone. Do assign them more age-appropriate tasks, such as decluttering toys for the little ones and scrubbing tiles or vacuuming for the adults.

You Can Book a Part-Time Cleaner Too

And if you’re too pressed for time, you should consider booking one of Singapore’s part-time cleaner services to help out. They’ll only be around for a few hours, so you can have them do the more challenging work, like washing the carpets or upholstery. They’ll also pay attention to areas that you might miss if you handled the cleaning alone.

Let’s Welcome CNY With A Fresh Home

With Chinese New Year just around the corner, let’s make sure our homes are sparkling clean before the celebrations start. It’s the best way we can welcome a prosperous Year of the Snake.

If you still feel overwhelmed even with this checklist, don’t hesitate to get your loved ones involved or call a professional cleaner. You’ll always do a better job if you have many hands helping out!
