What is Digital Signage?


Digital signage refers to electronically displayed advertisements and information that take the form of text, graphics, animations, videos and other multimedia content. These dynamic signs use display devices like LCD, LED and projected displays that are networked to a central computer server to deliver timely, targeted messaging to audiences.

Hardware and Software Requirements
Setting up a Digital Signage network requires both hardware and software components. On the hardware side, displays are needed along with media players to decode and output content. Various types of displays can be used such as flat panel LCD, LED video walls or projectors depending on location and budget. Media players come in many form factors from small embedded boxes to high-performance networked players. Additional hardware may include mounting equipment, cabling and infrastructure for power and networking.

On the software side, a content management system is essential to schedule, deliver and track messaging across all screens from a central interface. Content creation software is also commonly used to produce displays with graphics, images and video. Integrated software gives users control over playlists, schedules, zones and audience metrics from a web-based dashboard. Additional software may provide features like interactive touchscreens, social media integration or remote device management.
