Draupadi Murmu is the first indigenous woman to serve as president of India, becoming the country's 15th president. Draupadi Murmu of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) started off with a big lead over Yashwant Sinha of the opposition, according to the support offered by various parties.

The Indian Constitution came into force on January 26, 1950, following its ratification on November 26, 1949. India's first president under its new constitution was Rajendra Prasad.
