What is a metaverse
Historical background of how metaverse came about
The concept of metaverse dates far back two decades ago in renowned novels like Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson where he describes the metaverse as an immersive virtual world which can be perceived by gadgets that augment reality such as VR goggles.
Going forth there has been several productions about the concept of metaverse in books and movies where characters could zoom into a whole new world when connected on certain sophisticated devices. However, the name of metaverse was only lingering in the ears of tech savvy and probably the very few folks who love to read Science fiction novels.
The Enlightenment of Metaverse on social media through crypto NFTs
The sprung of NFT sales and marketplaces literally plastered the name of metaverse on all social media platforms. Non Fungible Tokens and their utilities have opened the use cases of metaverse to the entire world. This exposure of Metaverse was not limited to the crypto space but traditional institutions and global companies like Facebook have taken keen interests in the development of Metaverse.
Early Builders of Metaverses
Take a quick glance in the crypto space and some of the common names in the metaverse space are Axie Infinity, Decentraland, Somnium Space, Metapolis etc. One of the common thing about early adopters is that sometimes most of them are in some sort of rate race in being the first to launch into the market hence end up not coming up with a wholistic solution for the market.
Scalability is one of the main setback of some of the early adopters as they tend to develop on major blockchain network like Ethereum whose transaction throughput is quite small. The effects of not deploying a solution on a scalable network ends up making users pay high cost of fees.
