'The parents of Alice who has intellectual disability were often reminded that she had 'abnormal' features and she was different to other children. Growing up in a society where people judge, pigeonholing children can lead to a lot of emotional problems.'

'One of the more difficult things I see is when adults are unable to come to terms with their feelings about disability in their adult children.

'Often it's the adult child that may feel like a burden to the parents because of the responsibility associated with caring for them.

'One of the most important things you can do is to find out as much information as possible about what your child has got. Then when a sibling comes along you have that extra support.

'If your child is being bullied the first thing you need to do is help them identify who is doing the bullying and help them stand up for themselves.'

'It's really unfair how disabled people are treated - people with disabilities are so proud and say it as it is but people are still trying to educate them.'

'There's not enough support for children with disabilities. When I was younger it was really difficult. I got picked on a lot because of my speech. People were just misinterpreting it as a problem and it was really sad.
