Getting back to life - the stages of alcoholic recovery
For an addict to rejoin society as well as recover, two elements are insanely necessary. Firstly, the alcoholic must admit that alcohol is his problem.
This cannot be done by anyone but himself. Secondly, the person whose problem is alcoholism must make the decision to seek treatment himself. When both of these conditions are met, the addict has a good chance of stopping his progressive disease.
The recovery of a person whose key problem is alcoholism is an arduous and challenging work on oneself. Above all, this work requires faith that transformation is possible and that the road to sobriety can be walked. This is evidenced by the many sober alcoholics who, among others, are members of Alcoholics Anonymous.
Knowing how many spheres are affected by alcoholism, treatment should likewise cover these very spheres of life. Healing the alcoholic is primarily about healing the physical and healing his psyche. Treatment of the physical sphere involves, among other things, changing eating habits, but not only that. It is also linked to the taking of certain medications, thanks to which organs such as the kidneys or liver begin to function relatively correctly.
Psychological recovery involves changing the previous thinking patterns, attitudes, certain beliefs, lifestyle of the person suffering from alcoholism. The recovery of a person who has fallen into alcoholism takes place in phases. They consist of six, consecutive phases. The first is the transition phase, where the patient accepts that alcohol consumption is harming them.
Stabilisation is phase two of recovery where the patient regains control over thinking, emotions and judgement. Stage three is the early phase of recovery: the alcoholic learns what the addiction system is all about and recognises their illness. The next phase is to repair the damage the patient has done to those closest to him or her is the middle phase of recovery. In the late phase of recovery, the alcoholic recognises any barriers and tries to resist them. The final phase is continuing sobriety - the patient must work on his or her sobriety.
