Participating in one or more sports is an important element of living a healthy and active lifestyle. Engaging in a sport is excellent for the heart, good for the lungs and good for growing and maintaining physical strength.

However, sometimes, people can move incorrectly, trip and fall, make unexpected contact with the ground and with each other. As a result, sports injuries are widespread.

Here are some of the most common types of sports-related injuries:

1. Foot pain

Those who play sports may sometimes experience foot pain. This may be caused by injuries, cavus foot, overuse, or conditions that inflame the bones or tendons in the foot.

Foot nerve injuries may cause burning pain, numbness, or tingling. In case you experience this, it would be good to contact your GP. They may refer you to a chiropractor for treatment.

Orthotics may be prescribed by your doctor to treat foot pain. Orthotics are unique shoe or heel inserts that a doctor prescribes and is custom-made for you.

Orthotics may be used as part of a therapy plan to address complaints, most commonly pain in the feet. These are some of the benefits of wearing custom-made orthotics:

  • may enhance the function of the foot or ankle
  • may assist with ankle support
  • may lower the chances of further injury.

For more information about foot pain including cavus foot and orthotics, you may view the website of Sydney Spinal Care.

2. Strains

Strains are one of the most common types of sports injuries. Our body parts are prone to moving in ways they should not, which may result in tears, damage, and pain. Pulled hamstrings and strained quads are all examples of common muscle strains.

Warming up and stretching before participating in strenuous activity is the greatest strategy to lessen the risk of strained muscles and tendons.

3. Sprains

Ankle sprains are another common type of sprain among athletes, followed by knee sprains, wrist and elbow sprains.

Stretching and warming up before a workout, as well as practising appropriate techniques in the sport you're playing, may help prevent sprains.

To end, the possibility of a sports-related injury should not dissuade you from participating in sports. Nevertheless, by being aware of some of the most common sports injuries, you might be able to prevent them or lower the risk of getting harmed.
