Film 83
Part 1. Christmas is a day celebrated on December 25 every year. It is a day which many people consider to be the birthday of Jesus Christ (Luke 2:4-19). People interpret the word “Christmas” differently. Some base their interpretation on the Bible while the others – on diverse theories. The Bible contains many verses both in the Old and New Testaments which can provide an insight into the meaning of Christmas (Hunter 3).
Miracle on 34th Street is an American Christmas film which was initially released on May 2, 1947. The movie focuses on a person who works as Santa at store, Edmund Gwenn, portrayed by Kris Kringle. The worker claims to be the real Santa Claus and his boss, Doris Walker, takes him for a mental check-up. Although the results reveal that he is okay, Doris does not believe it because she and her daughter, Susan, do not believe in any fantastic notions. The major theme in the film is that if you believe and have faith, anything is true. The dreams of Susan come true after she believes that Kris is the Santa. Therefore, the link between the movie and the Biblical understanding of Christmas is faith.
Part 2. Boyz N the Hood and Long Walk Home are two films that I have enjoyed most of all this semester. The first film reflects current actions in today’s society. It makes people understand how to develop, pick and drop characters in specific stages, and keep work flowing. The next film Long Walk Home focuses on racism in the American society. This is what people are currently facing as the rate of this problem has increased since Trump became the president.
Space Odyssey 2001 is the film which I enjoyed least of all. The film has too much fiction, and it is against everything what I stand for in life. The film advocates for artificial intelligence which seems to be achievable in the long run. This will affect the normal life globally.
In my opinion, film watching is healthy spiritually as it connects people to ancient Holy events that are mentioned in the Bible. Thanks to the films, these events are better understood and appear more real.
