How to take Ivermectin
Ivermectin is available in 3mg and 6mg tablets as flat, white, and round tablets with generic versions available as oblong tablets of yellow and pink. The dose of Ivermectin depends on the condition it is being used for, the age of the patient, and their weight with pre-existing systemic complications if any,
For conditions of river blindness or Onchocerciasis in adults aged 18-64 years or in children above 15kg, the dose of Ivermectin is 150 mcg/kg of the body weight, taken as a single dose. In patients weighing 65-85kgs, 4,3mg tablets are taken as a single dose. In those weighing 45-65kgs, 3, 3mg tablets are taken as a single dose. For patients weighing between 26-44 kgs, 2 tablets of 3mg strength are taken as a single dose whereas, in patients weighing between 15-25kgs, one tablet is advised as a single dose. In children weighing less than 15 kgs, the dose is decided on the basis of the treatment plan of the physician.
For conditions of threadworms, 200 mcg /kg of 3mg Ivermectin is advised as a single dose.
In patients weighing 80kg or more, 200 mcg/kg of 3mg Ivermectin is taken as a single dose. For patients weighing in between 66-79 kg, 5, and 3mg tablets are required to be taken as a single dose. In those weighing in between 51-65kg, 4, 3mg tablets are required to be taken as a single dose. In patients weighing between 36-50kgs, 2, or 3mg tablets are advised in single doses. In those weighing 25-35 kgs, 2, 3mg tablets are required to be taken as a single dose. One tablet of 3mg ivermectin is advised for patients weighing 15-34kgs. In children less than 15kgs, the dose is adjusted as per the treatment plan of the surgeon.
The proper method of usage
Ivermectin is best used on an empty stomach with a glass of water. Ensure that you use it at least an hour or two before meals. Usually, Ivermectin is a single dose and you need not take it on a regular basis. But prophylactic doses are advised to ensure that your system is parasite free because of which you should check with your physician and go as per their treatment plan to stay on the safe side.
If you don't feel better even after using Ivermectin, take the advice of your physician as to the next step of action. Drink lots of fluids and avoid alcohol and caffeine when you are using them.
