About Ooty:

The full form of Ooty is Udagamandalam. Ooty is also known as the Queen Of Hills. Ooty is a beautiful tourist destination situated in the Nilgiri Hills in the state of Tamil Nadu in South India. Let us tell you that winter in Ooty is colder than the rest of South India, so you should come here with essential items and warm clothes. Ooty, the queen of hill station, boasts of meadows, soothing surroundings, calm weather and a wide range of sightseeing places to visit. Although there is no dearth of places to visit in Ooty, but here are some main tourist places like Nilgiri Mountain Railway, Ooty lake, Doddabetta Peak, Murugan Temple etc.

  1. NILGIRI MOUNTAIN RAILWAY 

This is a world heritage site, built by the British in 1908. The journey of a toy train from 300 feet to 7200 feet high is definitely thrilling. It is a 46 kilometres beautiful toy train journey that starts from Mettupalayam and travels through many tunnels, bridges and beautiful valleys to reach Ooty in 5 hours. 

  1. OOTY LAKE 

This lake was built in 1825 and it is 2.5 kilometres long and passes through Nilgiri Hills. There are also some shops around the lake, which sell various items locally. Ooty lake is a popular destination for picnics, paddle boating and enjoying Ooty in comfort. And let us tell you that a song from Salman Khan's film Maine Pyar Kiya was shot here.

  1. DODDABETTA PEAK

A large number of tourists gather to see this peak located at a distance of 10 kilometers from Ooty. Doddabetta peak at 8,606 feet is the highest point in South India. The top of the peak is absolutely mesmerizing, the summit has a telescope house with two telescopes that offer a panoramic view of the valley surrounding. 

  1. MURUGAN TEMPLE 

This temple is situated on the Elk Hill is such magnificent temple. This temple is dedicated to Lord Murugan. The kavadi attam dance performed by the devotees of the Lord in this temple is the main attraction here. Like other cities of Tamil Nadu, ooty also has some magnificent architecture temples. 

  1. PYKARA WATERFALL 

This is a wonderful picnic spot surrounded by pine trees, located at a distance of 20 kilometers from Ooty. This place is also famous for photography. You can enjoy speedboat rides in this lake as well as take long walks among the pine trees. 

  1. BOTANICAL GARDEN 

The main attraction of the Botanical Garden is the Fossil Tree Trunk which is said to be around 20 million years old. There are different types of plants worth seeing here. This Garden is a horticultural area spread over a vast area of 22 hectares comprising of more than 650 species of flowers and trees. 

  1. KAMARAJ SAGAR LAKE

This is a popular picnic spot, surrounded by lush green forests. This lake is a dam located at a distance of about 10 kilometers from the bus stop of Ooty city. Several films have also been shot in the lake as well as in the surrounding areas. It is also a great place for fishing. 

  1. STONE HOUSE 

It is the first bungalow in Ooty built by John Sullivan in 1822. Now it is the Government Arts College of Ooty and displays amazing architecture and some great relics. Many tourists come to this place to get a glimpse of this bungalow. 

  1. FERNHILL PALACE 

The grandeur of the palace is reminiscent of the colonial era. This palace was built in 1844 and it was the summer bungalow of the Maharaja of Mysore.

  1. KALHATTY WATERFALLS 

This waterfall can be reached through a 2 mile trek from Kalahatty village. It is about 13 kilometers from Ooty, on the Ooty-Mysore road, Kalahatty Falls is one of the most beautiful waterfalls you will see on an Ooty trip. 

  1. NEEDLE ROCK VIEW POINT 

It got this name because of its shape resembling a needle. It is also a popular place for trekking. This point offers 360 degree view of the surrounding valley and areas. It is located about 8 kilometre from Gudalur and Gudalur is about 51 kilometre from Ooty. 

  1. OOTY ROSE GARDEN 

The unparalleled beauty of the Ooty Rose Garden presents a perfect backdrop for photography. It is created by the Government of Tamil Nadu. This garden is spread over 4 hectares of land and proudly presents more than 20 thousand varieties of roses. It is one of popular places to visit in Ooty.
