The legalization of betting and online real-money games in India has been debated for a long time. Arguments are equally balanced for and against. Europe has been the leader in legalizing and regulating real-money games, but India, China, and the US are treading cautiously.

However, the past few years have seen rapid changes. While rummy is still the most popular online game in India, fantasy cricket has emerged as a major source of entertainment for millions across the country.

Many card games can be played online for money, but their legality remains unclear. Online rummy is legal. However, there are some games that are illegal, such as online rummy.

India allows games of skill, but they are not regulated by the law. This is what separates India from the US: the inability of the government to regulate them.

In December 2017, The Rummy Federation (TRF), an initiative to "make this rapidly expanding industry grow responsibly" was established. TRF will spend real money from the company's bottom line to bring in outside experts to regulate the industry and players.

He stated that eventually, the government would legalize all real-money games and not just real cash rummy games. This will be safer than allowing illegal and unsafe sports betting to continue.

"For example, the US has legalized fantasy sports. The US is also currently regulating and legalizing sports betting. The Indian government should also be able to get past moral/taboo issues. They need to realize that regulation is what makes things safer, and not vice versa. Everybody who wishes to wager on sports today can find a way. Gera stated that regulation if done correctly, can be an amazing thing. It will also implement new safety standards which benefit the industry, players, and the government." Gera added.

Gera spoke out against the taboo surrounding card games that involve money. Rummy, however, is mostly viewed as a family game that can be passed down from generation to generation. Even though only a small percentage of people play it for real money it still has a distinct line from other games of chance which are referred to as "gambling".

He spoke out about the industry's prospects and said that it is growing at 40-50% annually. It currently stands at around Rs 1,000 crore per annum. This is a very small market compared to Europe. The European gaming market is worth Rs 1 lakh crores annually. He said that it is 100 times larger than India's gaming market.

Gera stated that RummyDangal is a technology startup and that it has been growing at 50-100% per year. It also makes it profitable, without needing to raise or burn a lot of outside capital. This makes Gera extremely happy. We are a rare exception in the Indian tech startup ecosystem. We're excited to continue building value in the Indian gaming ecosystem.

"We have exciting RummyDangal that we will be launching in the near future so we cannot comment yet."

"In terms of projects related to my portfolio RummyDangal keeps me pretty occupied, but there are some projects both in India/US, from retail/hospitality, enterprise Software, robotics/AI where I have invested personally and worked directly with the founders to scale. He said that while building my own business is exciting, it's also thrilling to be able to help other founders succeed.
