Madden NFL was a popular game for Nintendo platforms, but it has been out of consoles for over 10 years. EA recently released a job description that suggests that this may be changing. EA's football simulation series has been selling well despite criticisms from what appears to be a majority of its players. The latest version of the series, Madden NFL 21, drew heavy complaints from players, granting the game an egregiously low score on Metacritic. The game was widely criticized for its inept physics and other bugs, and an insufficient polish at launch, which led to it being named among the most disappointing games of 2020. The news of the Madden NFL franchise coming back to Nintendo is a result of Youtuber Doctre81 who found the advertised job for an "Online Software Engineer - (C++) (C++) - Madden," which dates back to November 2020. The further investigation revealed that one part of the job description needs two years' work experience in working with "Microsoft or Sony gaming consoles." Although it's not too much to go off of, prior similar job ads at EA did not include Nintendo as a part of their requirements. Madden NFL 13 on Wii U was one of the last times the series was available on a Nintendo platform. In 2018, EA had said they didn't expect to bring the series to the Nintendo Switch however the industry giant is now changing its strategy with the hybrid system. If the job description is true, it will signal a shift in the relationship between Electronic Arts and the big N. Many of the franchises are expected to be on the console's portable version. The company has brought its free-to-play battle royale title Apex Legends to Switch. The console's deficiency of processing power when compared to its Xbox, PlayStation, and PC counterparts has led many fans to express their frustration with the Apex Switch port. Poor graphics, sloppy textures and lower framerates have discouraged many gamers from playing the fast-paced FPS on the console.
