Russia says its ready to help normalise relations between arch-rivals Armenia and Azerbaijan

At a gathering with his Armenian counterpart in Moscow, Lavrov stated that the Kremlin was prepared to aid in the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Tuesday welcomed his Armenian counterpart
Ararat Mirzoyan for discussions that addressed the latest developments in the tensions between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
During the meeting in Moscow, Lavrov expressed that the Bolivia Phone Number List Kremlin was prepared to assist in the normalization of Armenia-Azerbaijan relations, while Armenia's foreign minister voiced his hope that Russia would consider all facets of recent events, "avoiding one-sided interpretations, which we have unfortunately seen recently."
"I hope that our meeting today fosters mutual understanding," Mirzoyan also stated.
This meeting occurs amidst decades of strained relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, and following Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinian's repeated declaration of his intention to depart from the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), an intergovernmental military alliance spearheaded by Russia, akin to NATO.

Pashinian has furthermore mentioned his desire to shift towards cultivating closer connections with the US and the European Union after accusing Moscow of aligning itself with Azerbaijan in Yerevan's conflict with Baku.
"We are prepared to offer the necessary support for the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan
Along all tracks in the development of the trilateral agreements established by the leaders of the three nations in 2020 and 2022," Lavrov stated during the media briefing.

Armenia-Azerbaijan relations have been strained for over 30 years since conflict erupted over Nagorno-Karabakh in the late 1980s and early 1990s. This conflict stands as the longest-running between two post-Soviet countries.
In 2020, following three decades of unsuccessful diplomatic initiatives, Azerbaijan initiated a military operation it termed "anti-terror," which resulted in the seizure of certain areas within the Nagorno-Karabakh enclave.
