Healthy Drumstick Leaves Puttu: A Traditional Tamil Recipe

This Murungai Keerai Puttu is a wholesome and nutritious South Indian dish made from drumstick leaves (moringa), rice flour, and freshly grated coconut. It contains nutrients like iron, calcium, and vitamins from drumstick leaves. This puttu is a healthy breakfast or snack option for everyone. Light, flavorful, and easy to prepare, it combines the traditional flavors of Tamil cuisine with modern health benefits.
Ingredients:
2 cups of rice flour
1 cup drumstick leaves (drumstick greens), chopped
1/2 cup grated coconut
1/4 cup of water
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon Asafoetida.
1 tsp ghee or oil or honey
1-2 green chillies, finely chopped.
Instructions:
First, wash and chop the drumstick leaves. Remove the stems and use only the leaves.
Take a large bowl, add rice flour and salt, then add chopped drumstick leaves, grated coconut, and green chilies, and mix well.
Gradually add water and stir well to make a smooth mixture.
Add ghee oil or honey to it and make the mixture slightly moist. (If you add honey to the puttu, it will taste better).
Using your hands, shape the rice flour mixture into a small cylindrical shape.
Place the shaped Molds in a steamer or idly maker and steam for 10-12 minutes or until cooked.
Serve hot with your favorite chutney or sambar (or) serve as a nutritious breakfast or dinner.

Adjust the amount of water according to the moisture content and texture of the rice flour.
