Top golf course architecture firms may be ranked among the top Golf course design firms and golf course design companies. However, many of them may also be directly involved in providing golf course maintenance solutions and golf course maintenance programs for golf courses. The golf course maintenance managers are the higher-level staff responsible for effectively overseeing golf course maintenance and operations, including proper functioning, reporting, scheduling, and running effective maintenance on golf courses.

Below are two ways golf course maintenance managers add value to golf courses, and many may already have implemented these practices:

●  Identifying areas that see the most wear and tear: Golf course maintenance managers can follow planned routes through all nine and 18 holes to survey the golf course as the golf players do, spending and allocating more time inspecting areas that receive the most frequent damage and visiting them more often. This includes tee boxes, where golf course players are likelier to tear up divots, and the ends of fairways, where golf balls land frequently. Identifying the areas that see the most wear and tear enables the golf course maintenance staff to recognise which spots are receiving the most impact and whether any modifications to their maintenance activities can be accomplished.

●  While an individual ball impact remains minimal, hundreds of ball impacts throughout seasons in the same spots can result in depressions and uneven areas.

●  By carefully recognising the high-impact zones on a golf course, maintenance activities can be allocated to devote more time and resources to these areas, enabling them to remain in optimal condition.

●  Educating golf course players/golfers: Most golfers are there to practise their game, eagerly seeking to improve their golf skills. Educating golfers who do take ownership of course etiquette can benefit them. The golf course maintenance staff can supply a few pointers and easier methods that golfers can add to their part, such as simple and good ways to fix minor scuffs, and being able to rake sand traps, keep equipment and carts on the recommended path, and follow general rules and etiquette, for the maintenance side of things.

●  By instilling a sense of responsibility in players, these maintenance managers are effectively creating a culture of care that can benefit the golf courses. Most players would happily follow minor instructions, improving the condition of the golf course, which is a well-maintained golf course that benefits all players and staff.

Conclusion:

Golf course maintenance managers can add value to their activities by determining and inspecting the high-impact zones in their golf courses and educating golf course players.
