What is a Dental Autoclave?

A dental autoclave is a device used to sterilize dental and medical instruments through high pressure saturated steam. The autoclave is an essential piece of equipment in any dental office or clinic for ensuring proper sterilization of reusable instruments between patients.

How Does They Work?
A Dental Autoclave utilizes steam under pressure to sterilize dental tools, equipment, and other items. It works through three main stages:

Pre-vacuum Phase
During this initial stage, the autoclave chamber is prepped by evacuating air using a vacuum pump. This draws out any air pockets that could interfere with the sterilization process.

Saturated Steam Exposure Phase
Once the air is evacuated, pressurized saturated steam is introduced into the chamber. The steam penetrates every surface of the items, including hard-to-reach crevices and pores. This steam exposure kills microorganisms through moist heat.
