Creating personalized gift baskets is a thoughtful way to show appreciation, and using CottageCutz dies adds a creative touch that makes these gifts truly unique. In this project, I designed four beautiful gift baskets for a teacher appreciation event, and I’m excited to share how you can create similar projects with some fun dies, adding charm and style to your gifts.

Materials Needed for Your Gift Basket Project

To start this project, you’ll need a few key materials:

  • Gift baskets (I found mine on clearance at Hobby Lobby)
  • CottageCutz dies (available on their website)
  • Kraft and black cardstock
  • Foam tape for dimension
  • Jute string
  • Wooden beads
  • Cello wrap and decorative bows
  • Various items to fill the baskets, such as school supplies, snacks, or personal care items for teachers.

These materials will help you create professional-looking gift baskets that will wow your recipients. Now, let’s dive into the step-by-step process!

Step 1: Selecting and Preparing the Gift Baskets

The first thing I did was choose the perfect baskets for the occasion. Luckily, I came across these adorable baskets at Hobby Lobby while they were on clearance! They varied in shape, with one rectangular basket and three traditional basket shapes. Before adding any decorations, I filled each basket with items teachers will love, such as stationery, supplies, and treats.

If you’re making these baskets at home, customize the contents based on the preferences of your recipients. For example, you could fill them with things like coffee mugs, notebooks, pens, or even gift cards.

Step 2: Designing the Decorative Banners

One of the highlights of this project is the hanging banners that add a unique flair to the baskets. I created these little banners using some of my favorite CottageCutz dies. Even though the banners are small, they make a big impact on the overall presentation.

To make the banners:

  1. Cut out double-stitched rectangle mats using Kraft cardstock.
  2. Layer black cardstock on top of the Kraft rectangles to create a bold contrast.
  3. Use foam tape between the two Kraft layers to add dimension.
  4. The main decoration for each banner is the award cup and the #1 symbol, both made using CottageCutz dies.
  5. String the banner panels onto a piece of jute string, spacing them with wooden beads for a rustic yet charming look.

This simple banner design can easily be adapted for other themes and events, such as birthdays, holidays, or weddings.

Step 3: Assembling the Gift Baskets

Once the banners were ready, it was time to assemble the baskets. I hung the banners across the front of each basket using the jute string, tying the ends securely to the basket handles. The wooden beads added a nice touch and helped to break up the panels, making the design stand out even more.

After attaching the banners, I wrapped each basket with cello wrap to give them a polished, gift-ready look. To complete the presentation, I tied a bow on top of each basket using decorative ribbon.

Step 4: The Final Touches

Here’s a closer look at the rectangular basket, which was the only one of its kind that I could find. Even though the shape was different, the banner fit perfectly, and the overall design was consistent with the other baskets. This goes to show that you can adapt these decorations to different basket styles and sizes.
