Understanding the Many Uses of Facial Tissues

Facial tissues come in a variety of sizes, textures and materials to suit different needs. When selecting tissues, consider how the tissue will be used and what attributes are most important. For occasional use or light duty cleaning, a basic tissue will suffice. But if tissues will be used often or for more heavy-duty tasks, a stronger, more durable tissue is best.

Softness is a key factor for those using Facial Tissue on sensitive skin. Look for tissues made with lotion or aloe to gently wipe away dirt and moisture. Thicker, puffier tissues tend to be softer. For heavy-duty cleaning, sturdier two-ply or three-ply tissues stand up best to dirt and grime. Textured tissues with ridges or quilting do a good job of collecting debris.

Box size should match your needs. Individual pocket packs are handy for on-the-go use. Mid-size boxes of 100-200 tissues work well for most homes. Very large “jumbo” boxes contain 400+ tissues and are best for families or locations where many tissues will be used each day.

Using Tissues for More than Just Your Nose

While their name implies tissues are just for noses, facial tissues are surprisingly versatile. In addition to cleaning skin and wiping away dirt, tears or secretions, tissues have many other uses around the home:

- Dusting surfaces - Tissues gently remove dust, making them an ideal alternative to dust cloths that can spread dust instead of capturing it.

- Cleanup spills - Use tissues to blot up liquid spills on counters, tables and other surfaces before the mess can soak in.

- Polishing glass - Wipe glass surfaces, mirrors, eyeglasses and camera lenses with a tissue for a streak-free shine.

- Removing makeup - Gently wipe away excess foundation, concealer, mascara and other cosmetics without leaving residue behind.

- Absorbing moisture - Tissues can soak up excess moisture on skin after washing, showering or applying lotions.

- Packing delicate items - Tissues cushion breakable or fragile items during shipping or storage to prevent damage.

- Personal hygiene - In addition to nose care, tissues can be used for feminine hygiene needs or wiping baby’s sensitive skin.

With so many practical applications, keeping a box of tissues in the home makes sense even if no one has allergies or a cold. Their absorbency, soft touch and eco-friendly disposability give tissues an edge over other cleaning tools.
