Inseong Girls' High School's Kang Seo-hee defends and rebounds
Inseong Girls' High School is hoping to qualify for the Weekend League behind the big play of Kang Seo-hee (179 cm, C).
The qualifying rounds for the 2024 Korea Basketball Weekend League began on July 15. While the tournament is in full swing in regions other than Honam and Gyeongsangbuk-do, the girls' middle school and high school divisions will begin in earnest in July.
Inseong Girls' High School, which is in Group B of the regional group stage along with Sunil Girls' High School and Sookmyung Girls' High School, is currently preparing for the weekend league with a total of eight players, including one junior, two sophomores, three juniors, and four freshmen, excluding junior Kim Bo-hyun, who is currently on the U18 women's national basketball team, and junior Hwang Mi-jeong, who is injured.
"Everyone on the team has been preparing hard since winter training and doing their best, but we were eliminated from the qualifying rounds in the rest of the tournaments except for the Federation Championships (in May)," said junior Kang Seo-hee, adding, "We have been playing a lot of practice matches and training to make up for the deficiencies in the last tournament."
"We don't have our captains, (Kim) Bo-hyun and (Hwang) Mi-jung, so I'm working out alone during my junior year. The sophomores help me a lot, and the freshmen follow me well, so I'm working hard to prepare for the competition. The team atmosphere is good," she added.
Coach Park Joo-hyun of Inseong Girls' High School said, "Although she has a short history, she is doing the dirty work for the team. Our inside play has improved a lot. She doesn't make many plays that stand out, but if you look closely, she is responsible for our defense and rebounding," he praised Kang Seo-hee.
He recognized the potential of Kang Seo-hee. "In my coaching career, I realized that it takes about three years to see the potential of basketball. Seo-hee has been playing basketball for more than three years now, and she is showing promise. She still lacks goal determination, but over time, she will be able to play more refined and resilient."
"As a third-year player, I need to score at important 바카라사이트 moments, and I'm sorry to my teammates for my lack of offense. I'll try to improve my rebounding and defense from the bad days."
When asked about her strengths, she said, "I always try to get rebounds. I try to stick to the ball to get the offense," he said, citing rebounding as one of his strengths.
When asked about his weaknesses, he said, "I started playing basketball in the second grade, so my individual skills are lacking. I'm focusing on finishing under the basket and improving my one-on-one offense."
As for the advice he usually gets from his coach, Park said, "There's something my teacher always says. 'The reason it looks easy is because the person is doing their best. If you want to do something easy, you have to do your best in small things. Don't skimp on any of the little things. And on defense, he tells us to come out strong on the switch, emphasize boxing out and rebounding."
"I want to emulate her accurate mid-range jumper and her tenacity with the ball, and I also want to emulate her rebounding ability," she said, referring to Jin An, who moved to Bucheon Hana OneQ.
Finally, Kang Seo-hee said, "My goal is to pass the Weekend League qualifiers and advance to the Wangjoong Wangjeon. I'm not the center of attention in the team, but the little things are also important. I will work hard from day one in this tournament. I was very disappointed that we didn't show everything we practiced, but I want to show everything in the remaining competitions. As a senior, I want to do my best to prepare for the competition with my teammates and graduate with good grades."
