Azar continues to mention Real after retirement
Eden Hazard has mentioned Real Madrid once again.
“At a recent event, a Spanish journalist approached him while he was signing autographs and asked him if he thought Real Madrid would win the Champions League this weekend, when they face Dortmund in the final,” the British publication Tribuna reported on Sept. 29 (ET).
Azpilicueta was a legend at Chelsea, but at Real Madrid, he was so broken that you wondered if he was the same player we knew. After being touted as the club's next ace following the departure of iconic star Ronaldo, Azpilicueta was criticized even more than Kaka, who scored just one goal and provided four assists in his first season.
His attitude problems in training, failure to keep his weight under control, injuries, and declining skills led to his departure from the club, leaving both him and Real Madrid with a broken heart after only seven goals and 12 assists in four seasons at the club.
Eventually, he announced his retirement. “I have to listen to myself and stop at the right time,” he wrote on Instagram. After 16 years and more than 700 matches, I have decided to end my career as a professional soccer player,” he said on Instagram.
He also added: “I was able to fulfill my dreams, I played in many stadiums around the world and had a great time. During my career, I was lucky enough to 스포츠토토 meet some great managers, coaches, and teammates. I would like to thank them all for allowing me to have such a great time. I will miss everyone,” he added.
“I would also like to thank the clubs I played for, LOSC, Chelsea and Real Madrid, and I would also like to thank the RBFA. Special thanks to my family, friends, advisors, and those who have stood by me in good times and bad. Finally, a big thank you to my fans for following me over the last few years and encouraging me everywhere I play,” he wrote in his farewell post.
Azar admits that he got a bit heavier during his time at Real, but he doesn't apologize for it, as he was determined to make the most of his time off the field. The grueling national, continental, and international competitions had pushed his body to its breaking point, and he was reluctant to engage in any kind of serious exercise when there was so much to enjoy.
Also, Azar's bad blood with Real continues to this day. Azar joined Real in 2019 with a performance-based add-on worth more than £40 million, and another bonus option was triggered when Real beat Munich in the Champions League to reach the final.
Now, when asked who he thinks will win the Champions League, Azar is all too confident. “Of course Real will win it. They will win the 15th, 16th, and 17th,” he confidently told Diario Record.
For now, Azar is enjoying playing charity matches and the King's League. He has no plans to return to soccer for the time being and is free to be himself.
