The goal is to put something into savings, and to do it first rather than paying off everything and falling into the temptation of spending that money instead.

After you have put some money to you savings, however much you decide makes sense at the time, you will then use the rest of your income to pay for all of those necessities and discretionary items. You don’t have to track everything like with the other budgeting methods, but you will at least have some savings built up that you to rely on if something does happen during the month or down the line.
