Importance Of An Injection Molding Machine
What is an injection molding machine?
An injection molding machine or an injection press finds application in the manufacturing of plastic products through the injection molding process. It has two main parts, namely an injection unit and a clamping unit. Pipe fittings making machine is an example of an Injection molding machine.
Operations performed by an injection molding machine
An injection molding machine is fastened either in a horizontal or a vertical position. There are horizontally-oriented machines, but vertical machines also find application in processes such as insert molding, to allow the machine to take advantage of gravity. Some vertical machines don't require the molds to be fastened. Magnetic and hydraulic clamps are often used to fasten the tools to the platens of an injection molding machine.
Types of the injection molding machine
It is upon the person designing the mold to decide whether the mold would use a cold runner or a hot runner system for carrying fillers and plastic. A cold runner happens to be a simple channel that gets carved into the mold, whereas a hot runner system is complicated which often uses cartridge heaters to keep the plastic in the runner's hot as the part cools.
Uses of injection molding machines
- The injection molding machines create extremely high pressure and it results in pressing the plastic within the mold harder compared to any other molding process. Due to excessive-high pressure, it is possible to add a large number of details into the design of the end product. Furthermore, because of high pressure during the molding process, it is easy to give complex and intrigue designs to the parts. Most of the fittings making machine and product making machines work following this technology to add minute details in their designs.
- Fillers are used in plastic injection molding and these fillers reduce the density of the plastic and also help in adding greater strength to the product it has molded.
- A plastic injection molding machine can use various types of plastic at the same time for producing one single part or product. This is possible with the co-injection molding machine, which ensures that you don’t have to use plastic.
Using injection molding also ensures that the parts manufactured hardly require any work after the production, as the parts mostly have a finished appearance when they come out from the injection mold.
