Certainly, Allah has stated in the Quran that he will test his believers with loss of wealth, health, life, and a certain amount of fear and hunger. However, he also states the reward he has prepared for the patient. This emphasises the importance of patience in Islam and the virtue of remaining steadfast even during the most troublesome times.

Patience and victory in the Quran are synonymous with one another. It is like a horse that never gets tired, a fortress that can never be breached, and an army that can never be defeated. Surah Al Anfal (Chapter 8, Verse 46) of the Holy Quran states, “Surely, Allah is with those who are patient.” This reiterates that Allah has kept a huge reward for believers who remain patient in every life situation.

The Quran also exhorts perseverance—known in Arabic as "Istiqamah"—into action. In Surah Fussilat (41:30), Allah declares, "Indeed, those who have said, 'Our Lord is Allah' and then remained steadfast – the angels will descend upon them, [saying], 'Do not fear and do not grieve but receive good tidings of Paradise, which you were promised.”

Allah also states that whoever stays steadfast in his faith and is patient in every situation will not be harmed or touched upon by evil or defeat. Surah Al Imran, Chapter 3, Verse 120, states, “But if you remain patient and become Al-Muttaqun (the pious), not the least harm will their cunning do to you. Surely, Allah surrounds all that they do.”

Several stories of the prophets and other instances from the Quran teach us the true meaning of how one should remain patient in life. For example, the Prophet Ayyub (Job) was tested with health, wealth, and offspring. Yet, his patience and perseverance and his remembrance and gratitude to Allah, even while he was bedridden, is indeed an example we, as Muslims, should look up to. Read the English-translated Quran to understand how Allah glorifies the patient.

When Muslims face social, personal, or spiritual difficulties, they might find solace in the Quran's lessons on patience and persistence. These attributes inspire Muslims to keep their composure, have faith in Allah's plan, and persevere in every hardship.
