Nothing is worse than finding out you have flooding in your apartment. It doesn’t seem to matter whether the flooding came from a plumbing problem or a natural disaster, it can leave a big mess behind and a lot of damage that you will be responsible for cleaning up and making better. There are a lot of different things that you will need to do to help take care of the apartment and ensure that the flooding damage is kept down to a minimum as much as possible.

For example, you need to try and get the water turned off if that is possible. This can limit the water that gets into the apartment, and that helps to limit some of the damage as well. You need to get in contact with the landlord so they can bring professionals to clean up the mess and fix some of the damages, and you need to take care to document as much of the damage as possible for insurance purposes later on. But one other task that you need to remember along the way is to tell your neighbors that the flooding occurred.

Water is really hard to contain. Once it gets out and you have a problem with flooding in your apartment, then it is time to notify your neighbors so they know what is going on. If you ignore this, then they may notice some of the water going all around and your landlord will probably have a big issue on their hands as well. If you live above another unit, start with the one under you.

Even if the flooding is just a small leak that is not noticeable right away, you should still let the neighbors know. It is possible that this can turn into a slow week or mold that will show up in a few months. Having the neighbors be on the lookout can help keep everyone safe.
