Depending on if you have the option for living off campus (because not all campus’s offer that and some require you to be on campus for your first year), you might wonder what you want to do. Should you focus on finding some good umass undergraduate housing, or simply apply to live in a dorm?

Living In A Dorm

The room and board costs for living on campus might be a bit higher than if you were to live off campus, but you might be able to get those bundled in with the payment of your college tuition. Living in a dorm can be a very good idea if you want to spend a lot of time at college outside of classes. If you want to focus on taking advantage of the various resources that the college can give you, being close to them in a dorm room can be extremely helpful.

Additionally, you might be able to have a roommate who can become a good friend. If you don’t have someone you are coming into the campus with who you want to be roommates with, you need to hope that the dice roll in your favor and you get a great roommate. But if you have a great one it can make the entire process much easier.

Living Off Campus

You might be able to find some undergraduate housing for cheap prices, especially when compared to living on campus. Additionally, if you want to spend time in the wider community away from college then you will have that ability. Plus, it can be easier to step away from college and simply have your apartment all to yourself.

Just be prepared for extra costs like power and wi-fi and various other things to pop up, and living off campus can make the travel time between campus and your home a bit harder. Still, having your own apartment and place to live can help teach you even more about responsibility and can help your college lifestyle improve.

Whether you live on campus or off, you need to make sure that you are able to be part of the college community. Get out of your dorm and apartment, have fun with your friends and family, focus on spending time with all of the things you enjoy, and just enjoy the college lifestyle.

No matter where you live, you need to make sure that you are experiencing all that college has to offer, because that will be a memory you hold forever.
