American Airlines uses a 6-digit record locator that is almost like the master key to your reservation— you can use it to look up the flight status, manage your booking, and check-in.

How to find your American Airlines record locator:

This is pretty easy to find these days:

Check your email. American Airlines emails the 6-digit record locator shortly after booking. Check your spam or “promotional” folder if necessary

If you booked the flight through a travel agent or third party, they should have also emailed you the number. If not, give them a call If all else fails, contact AA via email or phone— even Twitter works What about record locators for flights on other airlines booked through AA?

AA uses the Amadeus booking management system shared by most of its partners. So if you have a flight on British Airways, Iberia, Finnair, or another airline booked through AA, the locator provided by AA should work on the websites of these airlines as well.

This is not true for two American Airlines partners: Alaska Airlines and Japan Airlines. If you have a flight on one of these two, your AA record locator will not work. You will need to contact AA and get the special locator used by these airlines.
