bakcou mule is the Best Electric Hunting Bike
What makes the Mule the best electric hunting bike on the market?
I had the pleasure of trying this bike earlier this year and it was really fun!
The bakcou mule is available with an optional 750 watt and 1000 watt motor, and that motor is the Bafang Ultra mid drive. The Bafang Ultra is the G510 and their best engine to date. The Bafang mid drive motor found on most electric fighter bikes is already a great motor with an integrated speed sensor and cadence sensors. But the Ultra also has a torque sensor.
Why is the torque sensor important?
Well, the motor understands the amount of power you need to produce based on the amount of pressure you apply to the pedals. So instead of getting a predetermined power setting, the Ultra's mid-motor is smart and gives you what you need at that moment.
Let's say you're riding over rough terrain and you don't want to go full throttle at maximum speed. The Ultra engine senses when you release the pressure on the pedals and reduces power as you need it. So it's not only smarter, it's safer!
Mule 2020
If the Ultra mid drive engine is so amazing, why don't all the major brands use it?
The Ultra is the most expensive engine and since the normal Bafang engine is an excellent engine, there is no hurry to switch to the Ultra. The Mule is one of the first electric hunting bikes to be built around this engine and in two years time it will be the standard. Maybe when the Ultra will be cheaper to put on the bike.
The engine is not the only area in which the Mule shines. It comes with 3 battery size options. 14.5Ah, 17.4Ah and 20.5Ah. When other brands offer a standard battery of 11.6Ah or 14.5Ah, the mule's smallest battery is 14.5Ah.
Why is battery size important?
It is the battery that determines the battery life. The larger the battery, the farther you can go on a single charge.
The mule that uses its smallest battery of 14.5 Ah can travel about 35 miles since it is built with Samsung cells and combined with the Ultra mid drive engine is efficient in the way it uses the power of the battery. 35 miles on a single charge is almost double the range of other brands like Quietkat and Rambo Bikes.
Another advantage of the Mule is its finishing mode. When you buy the Mule, it comes with a sturdy rear rack, front and rear fenders and a headlight. Other major brands sell all these components separately, so you can get a lot of bikes for the price.
The Mule with the 1000 watt Ultra mid drive motor retails for $4,398 and if you compare this to the 1000 watt Quietkat models for the same price or to the 1000 watt Rambo Bikes model which costs more. None of these models have the Ultra engine, so stay away from this line and sell the components extra. That's why I say it's a lot of bikes for the price!
What is the Walk Assist mode?
Another feature of the Mule is the little known "Walk Assist" function. How is this relevant?
Imagine that you arrive at a place where you don't feel comfortable riding your bike, maybe it's too steep, maybe it's just too unstable but you don't want to push the bike with the thing you're pulling in the trailer. You can turn on the walk assist mode and the engine will run at 2.5 km/h so you can walk with the bike, but the bike does most of the work, isn't that cool?
Can the mule climb steep hills?
Yes, but why? Because the engine of the central transmission is the engine of the climb.
The rear hub motors are perfect for small hills because they work with brute force by turning the rear wheel and pushing you forward.
The center motor engages directly with the gears that turn the drive chain, so it's the torque that makes the bike move.
There's a quote that sums up the difference (I don't know who invented it first, so I'm not trying to take advantage of it). "Power is the speed at which you hit the wall, torque is the distance you take the wall with you! You got it.
