When No Longer Comfortable

The first sign that your bra is past its prime is when it starts to be uncomfortable. Uncomfortable can be the straps are too loose for adjusting, it appears like the bra has gotten bigger, or the elastic is worn out, creating more stretch. Some women will hold on to bras far too long. 

Perhaps you’ve put it on, and it didn’t feel right. Then it gets shoved back into the dresser drawer. A month or two passes, you take it out. You think maybe it’ll feel good this time. Over a Year Old

If your bra is over a year old, it might be time to get rid of it. Bras have a shelf life of approximately six months to a year. After that, they tend to stretch, becoming more uncomfortable and don't fit as well. Consider tossing bras that show damage is older, or you have had for longer than you remember.

Have Lost Its Shape or Damaged

With a fair amount of damage, a bra can start to lose its shape. A bra fitting will determine the appropriate size, but if the damage is done, it's a moot point. Bras can become damaged, such as the clasp brakes, the underwire pops out of place, padding shifts, or the strap adjusters break or get stuck.

If your bras are aging, and you find an excellent deal on new bras that fit right and are terrifically sized, it might be a sign to get rid of your old bras in favor of something new. Sports bras are an excellent investment as well as t-shirt bras. These typically have better comfort and support than other types.
