If you use an Apple iPhone or iPad, you receive many text messages every day via iMessage and SMS or Download (iOS) messages apps and other useful apps from App Store. But not everyone needs your attention. You have several options to block spam from telemarketers, limit annoying notifications while you're working or studying, or stop receiving SMS from specific senders. This tutorial will show you all the ways to block text messages on iPhone and iPad.

Add senders to your iPhone's block list  The easiest way to block text on your iPhone or iPad is to add senders to the built-in block list.

But also stops all incoming mobile and FaceTime calls from blocked contacts or numbers. If that doesn't matter:

 1. Open the Messages app on your iOS or iPad device.

 2. Tap the thread of the sender you want to block.

 3. Tap the contact's name or phone number at the top of the screen.

 4. Tap the info button.

 5. Tap Block this caller.

 6. Tap Block contact.

To later unblock messages or calls from a specific contact or number, you must:

Open the Settings app.

Scroll down and tap Messages.

Tap Blocked Contacts.

Swipe left on a contact's name or phone number.

Tap Delete.

Mute Human Message Alert

If you don't want to block incoming calls from senders, muting incoming text messages is the best option. You can do this:

1. Open your Messages app.

2. Swipe left on the conversation you want to mute.

3. Tap the Mute icon.

A mute icon appears next to a muted conversation. To unmute a contact or number, swipe left on the thread again and tap the mute icon.

Enabling Message Filters

If you continue to receive spam on a regular basis, you can filter incoming text to skip messages from unknown senders. Enable Filtered Messages on iPhone and iPad:

1. Open the Settings app on your iOS or iPad device.

2. Scroll down and tap Messages.

3. Turn on the switch next to the Filter unknown senders.

Then open the Messages app and you'll see a list of filters. Tap Known Senders to see messages only from senders in your address book.

To view messages from unknown senders, return to the filter list, click Filters in the upper left corner of the screen, and then click Unknown Senders.

Use a third-party filtering service (iPhone only)

Third-party speech recognition apps such as Truecaller and Hiya let you proactively block unwanted spam messages on your iPhone. However, these apps require unlimited access to your messages, calls, and contacts, which can compromise your privacy.
