The SPSR Nellore district under the administration of Shri Nara Chandrababu Naidu the former CM of AP has made great strides in providing work for the poor through the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS). By February 14th, the district had already reached the monthly target set by the state government and stood first in the state in this regard. Furthermore, the district continued to provide employment to an additional 100,000 people throughout the rest of the month.

The MGNREGS funds have been effectively utilized to provide employment to workers and to create infrastructure in the region. This has helped to enhance livelihood security in these areas and has been the best performance of the district in the last 14 years. The scheme has provided tens of thousands of workers with a means of earning a living during the challenging times of the pandemic.

The major accomplishment of the TDP government MGNREGS scheme is also been instrumental in drought-proofing and flood management, as well as empowering socially disadvantaged groups, such as women, SCs, and STs. The district was able to create assets, such as buildings, houses, Anganwadis, village secretariats, and Rythu Bharosa Kendra’s, using the 40% material component of the scheme.

Former Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu has instructed TDP leaders in AP to use ₹4,000 crores for NREGA works in the next four months to reach the target of ₹10,000 crores for the financial year. During a teleconference, he said that drought-affected mandals could receive up to 150 work days instead of 100 and the remaining 50 days could be used for laying cement concrete and blacktop roads. Despite a 35% rainfall deficit, sowing activity was not affected due to river linkage, using Godavari water to irrigate the Krishna delta and Krishna water to irrigate the drought-prone Rayalaseema region.

The TDP government was helping farmers shift from low-income agriculture to high-income horticulture. While the national growth rate was 3%, the Andhra Pradesh State achieved a growth of 11%, the Chief Minister said.

MR. Nara Chandrababu Naidu also proposed a separate MGNREGS work calendar for agriculture and allied sectors in discussions with the farmers, clearly calculating the number of man-days required for each activity and expanding those man-days to already empowered 100 days of guaranteed employment. In a letter on June 28, He suggested some of the measures that can be considered by the subgroup of Chief Ministers.
