The state government of Andhra Pradesh launched an irrigation scheme namely Purushothapatnam Lift Irrigation Scheme in the year 2017 throughout the state. This scheme aimed for using the water from the Godavari River for irrigation system and as well as for drinking water. The first phase of the scheme is already been completed by end of the year by the TDP Government.

Purushothapatnam Lift Irrigation scheme is one of them that completed its first phase on the 15th of August. CM Naidu switched on the pumps on Independence Day this year to implement the scheme around the Godavari River which is said to be one of the Top TDP Achievements.

Benefits of the scheme

●     Purushothapatnam Lift Irrigation Scheme is launched to facilitate farmers' agricultural usage.

●     The highly suffering and low-production areas are the ones who suffer from the adequate water supply. By Initiating schemes and such projects the water supply got much easier to the fields.

●     The Purushothapatnam Lift Irrigation Scheme will primarily benefit poor people across Andhra Pradesh. Poor farmers who depend on agricultural production for survival can enhance their products with enough water flow under this scheme.

●     With adequate water flow to the fields, soil quality will also get enhanced. This led to more efficient production and high-quality products in agricultural areas in the state of Andhra Pradesh.

●     Many of the poor people have also got balanced by this income distribution. Equal income distribution will help the authority lower poverty in various areas.

Key Features

●     Under this scheme, the water lifted from the Godavari River will be used for farming in the adjacent areas and also it is expected to purify for drinking purposes.

●     PLI scheme is designed for two phases among which one phase has been completed by the end of the year. 11 districts have benefitted from two phases of the Purushothapatnam Lift Irrigation Scheme

●     It is a state-run irrigation program for encouraging farming around the Godavari River area. It will be one of the many initiatives that have been taken to enhance the primary sector of the nation.

Purushothapatnam Lift Irrigation Scheme Area

●     The scheme has been implemented in the Godavari River's adjacent areas in Andhra Pradesh. According to the reports, nearly 2.15 Lac acres of land will benefit from irrigation under this project. The areas such as Rajanagaram, Pithapuram, Peddapuram, Jaggampeta, and Prattipadu are the main districts to be covered under the project.

●     Nearly 20,000 acres of land around the Polavaram Canal will be covered through this scheme. The water through the Purushothapatnam Lift Irrigation Project has been connected to the canal to reach the adjacent farming lands throughout the districts.

●     Also, the irrigation project will benefit 67,000 acres for direct connection to the productive lands. In the third district of the state, 5 regional assemblies will be covered in this 67000 acres of land under this scheme.

●     Mostly upland regions have been focused on and are benefited from this scheme. Those areas where the water supply in the lands hasn’t reached yet will be covered under the scheme.

Purushothapatnam Lift Irrigation Scheme is said to be one of the Top TDP Contributions in the State of Andhra Pradesh for many years to come.
