The principal developers of D2R Items have stressed that they do not want players to "feel that they have to pay to win" when the game releases in the coming year.

In an earlier Diablo 4 livestream(opens in new tab) Game director Joe Shely, along with the associate director of games Joesph Piepiora as well as community manager Adam Fletcher gave fans an update on all things Diablo 4, as well as providing a glimpse into the game's development before the game's launch next summer.

During the livestream during the stream, the group discussed how to play the Diablo 4 battle pass (around the 39:15 mark in the video below) in addition to the game's upcoming seasons. "It's really, really important for us to be able to balance those things you'll see in the battle pass" Piepiora told the crowd, "the way that they're compelling but still very fair. We do not want to have situations where players can feel that they have to pay. "To make a clear distinction among the combat pass as well as the seasons in Diablo 4 Piepiora said that "the season's journey continues an integral part of Diablo 4, in the same manner as you did the first time in Diablo 3." The chapter-based mechanics will provide players different objectives throughout the season , and allow players to earn in-game rewards on their own characters. "All of the content for the season is available for free. The content is not linked to the battle pass," Shely adds.

To clarify any confusion, Shely clarified that in the event that Diablo 4 launches on June 6, 2023, it is not going to launch immediately with season one. "Season one will be released some time after the launch of the game, and when season one starts all players will be playing simultaneously, and everyone will have an even game," the developer said. The competitive features of Diablo 4 (e.g. : leader boards) are expected to show up in seasons therefore those who don't purchase early access to the game won't have to worry about D2R items for sale PS4 any unfairness.
