King has published over 61 novels and seven of which he wrote under the pen name Richard Bachman. He has written over 200 short stories. King has received many awards, including World Fantasy Awards, Bram Stoker Awards, and British Fantasy Society Awards. He was also awarded the Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters from the National Book Foundation. King is known as the “King of Horror” for his fantastic horror content in pop culture.

Netflix has created some incredible adaptations of King’s novels, which are classic and creepy movies.

Gerald’s Game

Gerald’s Game is an American psychological horror thriller movie edited and directed by Mike Flanagan, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Jeff Howard. The film is based on the novel of the same title written by Stephen King, published in 1992. The movie stars Bruce Greenwood and Carla Gugino, who played the married couple’s role arrive at an isolated home for a holiday. And when the husband dies, the wife is left in the bed handcuffed to the bed little hope to rescue and battling with her inner demons.

The movie Gerald’s Game premiered at BFI Southbank on 19 September 2017 and was released on 29 September 2017 by Netflix. The movie received positive praise from critics. The film got an approval rating of 91% on Rotten Tomatoes based on 76 reviews, with an average of  7.58/10. On Metacritic, the movie scored 77 out of 100 based on 12 critics. And Stephen King called the film hypnotic.

The movie revolves around a couple whose game ends; the character gets stuck in handcuffs, and soon it becomes a survival story. Jessie figured out how to free herself and faced many visions and voices along the way. The characters also appeared in the horror show of Netflix, Haunting of Hill House. It includes television shows and original movies like The Platforms and The Haunting of Hill House; the two are also based on Stephen King’s novel. Deadline Hollywood reported that Mike Flanagan is all set to direct the adaptation of Stephen King’s novel Gerald’s Game on 19 May 2014.

In The Tall Grass

In the Tall Grass is a Canadian supernatural horror movie directed and written by Vincenzo Natali. The film is based on the novel Joe Hill and Stephen King of the same name published in 2012. The movie stars Layla De Oliveria, Will Buie Jr., Patrick Wilson, Avery Whitted, Rachel Wilson, and Harrison Gilbertson.

The project started in early 2015 but went under development hell. In May 2018, the video streaming platform Netflix announced that it had purchased all film rights. The film’s shooting started on 30 July 2018 and finished on 14 September 2018 in Toronto, Ontario. In the Tall Grass was premiered at Fantastic Fest on 20 September 2019 and released on 4 October 2019 by Netflix. The film got mixed reviews from critics, and many praised the performance, faithfulness, and atmosphere of the novel, though some criticized the inconsistent tone of the tone and dialogue.

The movie’s plot revolves around the character Becky, who is six months pregnant, and Cal DeMuth, who travels to San Diego. They hear a boy named Tobin, calling for help from the field of tall grass. Tobin’s mother, Natalie, shuts him up. They enter but get separated, and their distance changes unnaturally. They decide to leave but can not find the road. Beck meets Tobin’s father, Ross, and asks him to keep an eye on him and never lose sight of him. And the screenplay starts to grow after that.

The director of the film, Vincenzo Natali, announced the adaptation of the novel in 2015. In 2018, Netflix hired Natali to direct and write the film along with Jimmy Miller, M. Riley, and Steve Hoban as the producers. Later Natali announced manga artist Shintaro Kago would handle the concept of art designing of the film. The Tall Grass got mixed ratings from audiences; it has an approval rating of 36% based on 69 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, with an average rating of 5.61/10. And on Metacritic, the movie scored 46 out of 100 based on 13 critics, indicating average or mixed reviews.

The streaming platform made it an easy way to be available on Netflix originals.

1922

1922 is an American horror drama movie directed and written by Zak Hilditch based on the novel of the same name by Stephen King, published in 2010. It stars Neal McDonough, Molly Parker, and Thomas Jane, and the movie was released on 20 October 2017 on Netflix.

The plot revolves around Wilfred “Wilf” James, played by Thomas Jane, who is a farmer living in Hemingford Home, with his wife Arlette, played by Molly Parker, and 14-year-old son Henry, played by Dylan Schmid. Wilf opposes his wife’s plans to convince Henry to sell and move to Omaha. Later, he convinces Henry to murder Arlette and to hold Henry’s girlfriend.

The film 1992 received positive reviews from audiences and got an approval rating of 91% based on 43 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes with an average rating of 6.85/10. And on Metacritic, it scored 70 out 100 based on eight critics. The Hollywood Reporter, John DeFore, stated the movie is not lurid; it scares and depicts the protagonist is suffering as a slow rot. 1992 is a Stephen King novel with some creepy, spooky, and disturbing elements. The movie is a perfect fit for the streaming platform.

Although there are some fantastic films are adaptations of Stephen King, including The Mist, Pet Sematary, and The Shining, which are missing on streaming platforms and Netflix.
