Fast & Furious is one of the most popular film series in Hollywood. Despite all the parts being super-hit, Tokyo Drift has impacted Fast & Furious in several ways. The series could try for another movie like it, but should not try for a sequel. The Fast and the Furious was the first film of this series and was released in 2001. It was a great success and gained a lot of fame at that time. It was a crime-genre film. Later, in the year 2003, John Singleton directed its sequel, 2 Fast 2 Furious. It was also praised by the audiences. These films were based on crime and street car-racing cultures in the areas such as Miami and South Central Los Angeles.

After getting success in both of the previous films, Justin Lin directed another sequel to this series, The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, which was released in the year 2006. The story of the film was based completely on street car-racing and took place in Japan. The story also did not include any characters from the previous two movies. As a result, the movie was a flop as compared to previous installments of this series, and it is the lowest-grossing Fast & Furious film so far.

Fast & Furious 10 is going to be the next installment of this famous series. The Fast & Furious franchise wants to end the mainline story. Due to this, the franchise has an opportunity to release another movie that could be similar to Tokyo Drift but should not be a sequel to it. The Fast & Furious franchise has many spinoffs in their movies, and the recent example of this spinoff was last year’s Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw. However, the reputation of the film Tokyo Drift has changed a lot over time.

Why So Many Fast & Furious Fans Love Tokyo Drift?

When The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift premiered for the first time, most of the people did not impress with the first look of the movie. It was due to several factors that impacted the fan following of the Fast & Furious series. First of all, there was no connection with the storylines and the characters of the previous two movies and the other being the acting of Lucas Black.

However, Tokyo Drift impressed most of the people for its furious racing scenes and the inclusion of various brands of luxurious cars. The film was based on fast car racing, which was a different theme as compared to the last two parts of the Fast & Furious series. This film has also set the platform for the future movies of the series that could include the crime scenes along with fast car racing.

Fast & Furious Needs Another Movie Like Tokyo Drift

Fast & Furious is one of the favorite film series of most of us. But, the exaggeration of the plot has made it sillier. This film series has increased their fan-base by moving from street racing to heist action with Fast Five, which was released in the year 2011. Every year, these superheroes come together to defeat the terrorists and to save one of their one. Most of the people are thinking about why the family of Dominic Toretto has to come again and again out of their retirement. So, the franchise should move on from the same type of storyline to some new script. The new storyline of the upcoming Fast & Furious could include the street racing pattern along with the Fast & Furious universe to provide different content to the audience.

Fast & Furious’ Future Should Be More Than Just Be Spinoffs

The Fast & Furious franchise should not plan for a direct sequel to Tokyo Drift because the motive for making that film has already been completed, and it has set the platform for the upcoming movies of the Fast & Furious series. After the release of Fast & Furious 10, the franchise should include a unique and different storyline along with the street car-racing culture instead of the character spin-offs. The franchise could introduce some new characters also to maintain the success of this series.

After discussing the Tokyo Drift and other films of the Fast & Furious series, we have concluded that even though we all want the Fast & Furious franchise to make another movie similar to Tokyo Drift, but the final decision and changes to this plan ties to the franchise. However, the idea of making another Tokyo Drift could prove to be exactly what this greater series needs.
