Those who are planning to attain an APEGS licence need to show their work experience and qualifications in a way that helps them satisfy the expected criteria. To do that, there is a system available online called CBA (competency-based assessment) system, which helps applicants report their work experience. Let’s know about this system, and how you can use it to report your work experience. However, before you know that, you must know that before being eligible to apply for your professional licence, you need to have four years of engineering/geoscience work experience assessed by the Experience Review Committee. Eligibility: For eligibility, you need to be registered as an engineering-in-training or geoscientist-in-training, or a member-in-training applicant who has been given the APEGS experience reporting option to try and get confirmatory exams waived. What is CBA (Competency-Based Assessment)? APEGS uses an online system, which is called competency-based assessment (CBA) to assess the work experience of an applicant. Besides providing validated examples to demonstrate each of the competencies, you need to have a minimum of four years of experience validated in the system. How to report your work experience in this system? • Reach https://competencyassessment.ca. • Choose the ‘Applicants’ section. • Adhere to the instructions appearing on the screen. • Create an account after using your APEGS Registration/Application number as your User ID. • Pick ‘Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan’ as your jurisdiction. • You will get a mail notification on the approval of your account. All this might take up to 5 business days. These accounts are approved in a manual way by M-F 8:00 to 5:00. • Reach the system by choosing ‘I man a registered user and would like to access the Competency Assessment System’. • Start putting in your information adhering to the instructions appearing on the screen. At this time, your educational information doesn’t show in this system. If facing any problems with the system, contact the APEGS authority. When your work experience is assessed, the authority will send you the result by mail. If you don’t pass it for the first time, you will have the opportunity to redo any competencies that didn’t satisfy the requirements. You should get your assessment result within a period of 6 to 8 weeks after the completion of all validations. If your validators are unacceptable, the authority will let you know and the validation process will have to be redone.
