So, how exactly do coffee pods work? Something about them must be quite complicated, given how long it took anyone to come up with the notion, right?

Nope. Coffee pods are actually quite simple to use and very comparable to your regular coffee and filter situation, though they are obviously far superior when it comes to single cups of coffee. How else can you be certain that each cup of coffee is as fresh as the previous, regardless of when it arrived in the cup? Or how about six distinct flavoured coffee pods, one after the other, with no waste? A regular coffee machine would not allow this.

Although brewing instructions vary by brewer, the general processes for brewing from coffee pods are all the same. First, wet your coffee pod so that the filter forms a better seal and allows water to move more easily through the coffee pod. This is also known as pre-infusion, so if your coffee pods or machine require it, you're set. Examine the interior of your brewer to ensure that everything is clean and that there are no mineral deposits covering the openings. If any of the pores are plugged, try brewing with simply white vinegar for a few cycles. Check the manufacturer's cleaning instructions first, but this is a fairly foolproof method of cleaning the brewer. Check for extra grinds as well, because even though coffee pods are sealed, things happen and grinds are spilled. If at all feasible, use only filtered, pure water. This, like any other method of brewing tea or coffee, will improve the flavour of your coffee.

Place a mug under the spout and press the brew button on the coffee pod brewer. You'll hear the familiar gurgling sounds of an old-fashioned filter system, and then you should see coffee pouring into your cup. It works in the same way as traditional brewers, by sending hot water through the pod and into your cup. After a minute or so, you should have a full cup of coffee. Because coffee pods are sealed, cleanup is a breeze; often, all you need to do is toss the used pod into the garbage.

Is your coffee too weak for you? Most brewers can accommodate two coffee capsules. A substantially stronger cup of coffee will result from the same amount of water going through two pods of coffee beans. Do not attempt to reuse coffee capsules. They are only intended for one usage, and the outcomes will be negative.
