In ancient Hindu mythology, diamonds were turned into the remains of the demon Asura. Asura hated the gods and humans and deliberately did not send rain for a long time, leaving the earth dry. The humans complained to him, but he ignored them, so he turned to Indra, the god of heaven. When Indra heard this, he was so angry that he pulled out his huge bow made of rainbow and shot out a divine arrow made of sunlight that could fly back and forth, killing Asura instantly. Then rain came down, and mankind was well fed and clothed. After his death, the demon Asura turned into a cliff. Some years later the cliff collapsed and became many pieces, and these pieces were all crystal clear diamonds.

When the gods and demons saw the shiny diamonds, they immediately scrambled to grab them, and when they got them, they hurriedly jumped on the celestial chariot and urged the heavenly horses to run away to prevent the ghosts of the asuras from chasing them. Because there were too many ghosts and gods, the celestial carriage was cracked, and most of the diamonds they carried leaked down, some fell to the mountain, and some fell in the water. The ghosts and gods could not let them go and jumped down with them.

These diamonds that fell on earth will grow and multiply like seeds, but each diamond is guarded by a devil or a heavenly god next to it. According to Indra's will, only the emperor can wear coral and rose-colored diamonds, while all other colors of diamonds belong to Indra.

It is also said that the diamond is not the corpse of an asura, but that it is the result of the shock of Indra's pestle breaking the head of the asura. It is also said that the Krishna River, where diamonds are produced in India, is the place where Indra and Asura fought.

Ruby Legend

The ancient Hindus believed that whoever offered a good ruby to Lord Krishna would become an emperor in the next life.

Hindus divided rubies into four social classes, calling the true oriental rubies Brahmins. The possession of a Brahmin is considered to enjoy absolute security.
