The helical Turbine flowmeter is specifically designed to handle high accuracy volume measurement of crude oils and other liquid hydrocarbons. Its design makes it a very reliable turbine meter. Due to its efficiency, it is of great use to the petroleum measurement industry. It is preferred at export loading terminals, separators, pipelines, AND FPSO (Floating Production Storage and Offloading).

How Does it Work?

The turbine meter comprises a dual-helical blade rotor. As the liquid passes through the meter, it subsequently rotates the rotor. The frequency of the rotation of the rotor is proportional to the volume of the liquid which flows through the meter.

The helical blade rotor has small magnets attached to its blade that make the sensors switch at every moment the rotor blade passes. The two sensors are placed in diametrically opposite directions. The flow meter body has a pressure-balanced measuring chamber, which is maintained by retaining rings that are screwed to it. The rotor is located in this chamber. The sensor generates a pulse that is commensurate to a volumetric throughput. The K-factor is determined by dividing the total number of pulses generated by an amount of liquid passed through the turbine meter. The K-factor depends on the meter size and can be determined at the calibration stage of the flow meter.

In the measuring chamber, cross blades support the rotor. The rotor is welded to the chamber system, which ensures the perfect bearing set alignment.

Benefits of Helical Turbine Meters

  • It can achieve a myriad range of flow rates.
  • Outstanding calibration process.
  • It has multi-product calibration and can maintain consistent accuracy despite changing viscosity conditions.
  • The rotor blade is forged by special light alloy or titanium that can withstand corrosion and has high specific strength.
  • The turbine meter is designed to provide a complete range of viscosity for sundry viscosity applications of a single meter with consistent meter factors.
  • Metering of high viscosity materials like polymers, polyurethanes, glues, and heavy fuel oils can be managed.
  • Materials like Titanium, Inconel, duplex, etc., can be applied.
  • The cartridges, made of stainless steel, are replaceable and guarantee minimal operation interruptions required for maintenance.
  • Tungsten carbide bearings are specially forged in such a manner that allows self-cleaning of debris.
