Doug and I met six years back at a poorly lit hipster dance party inside a bar in Columbus, Ohio. I immediately noticed Doug’s sweet moves, sweatband scrunchie, and floral sweatpants. A month later we reconnected once the dance party posted pictures of people talking and Doug slid into my DMs requesting a date!

Doug proposed a proposal once or twice, however it was never the best time. First, I felt like we hadn’t been together for sufficient length. Then, I’d just started grad school along with a new career path. We took our first vacation together to Jamaica in 2019 as we both finished school. There, he proposed in the most beautiful way around the beach, with flowers, along with a beautiful dinner; like a plus-size babe I never really felt like this kind of romance and fanfare was available to me, but Doug has always explained and shown me when I want it, I’m worthwhile!

Honestly, both of us wanted to feel at ease and at home on our big day and we wanted our guests to have the same. The look joined together from my dress. The beading reminded me of constellations along with a loose starry night theme that originated from there!

Planning then replanning a marriage (thanks, global pandemic) while ensuring my best buds and family could be safe was SO STRESSFUL, but seeing the benefits and love on my small partner’s face whenever we shared our vows, laughed with friends, and family, and dancing the night time away managed to get all worthwhile.

Seeing Doug get weepy when I walked on the aisle! We didn’t perform the first look and seeing him slowly get details of my bridal look was amazing. Exchanging vows with him before friends and family would be a moment I’ll always remember.
