Where was Sammy Sosa?

The former All-Star outfielder put up Tanner Muse Jerseys some of the most eye-popping years in Wrigley Field history when he played for the Cubs from 1992 to 2004. Sosa was the 1998 National League MVP when he hit 66 homers. Incredibly, that was just one of three years in which he hit more than 60 dingers.

So why wasn't Sosa at today's celebration of Wrigley Field's 100th anniversary along with other former Cubs stars like Ernie Banks, Billy Williams, Fergie Jenkins and Andre Dawson?

FYI, told K. Wood couldnt make it today...Sammy Sosa simply not invited

Well, it's pretty clear what's going on here: Sosa's reputation has been greatly tarnished by allegations that he took PEDs during his career. In 2009, for instance, the New York Times reported Sosa was on a list of players who tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs in 2003. The PED stain has kept him out of the Charles Cross Jerseys Hall of Fame despite more than 600 home runs, and apparently it kept the Cubs from recognizing the part he played in their history.

Many commentators were not happy with the snub:

Erased from history! RT : FYI, told K. Wood couldnt make it today...Sammy Sosa simply not invited

The shame re: Sammy Sosa isn't that he won't make HOF, it's that he's been swept aside as if the joy he brought during peak meant nothing

Come on Cubbies we celebrate our 100th NFL Seattle Seahawks Jerseys Wrigley Field Birthday today and no Sammy Sosa invite?

There's no Sammy Sosa at the Wrigley Field celebration, but Bud Selig is in attendance to represent the Steroid Era.

It's an absolute disgrace that the Cubs did not have Sammy Sosa at the ceremonies today.

Matt Johnson (@MatthewFJohnson)

I don't know, seems kind of lame the reportedly didn't invite Sammy Sosa to today's Wrigley celebration.

David Schoenfield (@dschoenfield)

I grew up looooooooooving Sammy Sosa. It was basically the only reason to like the Cubs. Those absurd, towering home Dakoda Shepley Jerseys runs were the best.

Satchel Price (@SatchelPrice)

No invitation to Sammy Sosa by the . No doubt they also returned all the money they made in 1998

Sully Baseball (@sullybaseball)

Honestly, Sammy Sosa was the best thing to happen to the Cubs in the last 30 years, but the organization prefers to pretend it didnt happen

The Chicago Homer (@TheChicagoHomer)

Something is deeply wrong with an organization honoring Ryan Dempster and not Sammy Sosa.
