I had a chance to go hands on with POE Currency 2 in Auckland multiple occasions, and every time felt better than the past. The dark, grimy setting sets a grim tone right off the bat as you choose among the three playable courses. Set to be hanged for offenses not explained, whichever gloomy soul you choose - the Marauder, Witch or Ranger - will snap loose of the gallows and escape, prepared to begin a new life.

Path of Exile 2 looks terrific. The improved lighting specifically over the Path helps establish the mood in each area, providing them a different texture.

Combat, also, is greatly improved over the original. Each and every encounter felt like it may be my final - indeed I can not recall how often my Exile met their destiny the first time I played. Standing in 1 spot, spraying enemies with skills and attacks that are basic will not lend itself nicely to survival. You have to move, slinging destruction and death with every step.

This challenge can be felt at the boss fights. Grinding Gear Games actually knows how to earn boss battles, and the early ones which you'll face in Path of Exile 2 sets the stage for what I can only expect are more in-depth experiences later on. Among the fights made it obvious these boss fights were more than what they looked compared to some of the early directors in Path of Exile.

Standing still is not an option, as The Devourer would continually drop underground, tunnelling round the arena, just to pop up spray and nearby acid around you. Stray too much though and you could find the giant worm creature's tail smashing yourself. It would attack from multiplying by shooting as they strike, if you walked through them, causing harm balls of acid which saturated the earth. Therefore, The Devourer required strategy and finesse to kill, it wasn't as simple as spamming what skills you had to complete the job. As one wrong move may end up causing you your life, you needed to be cautious.
