AI - Agents & Environments
An environment and the agent comprise an AI system. The agents operate in their surroundings. The setting might include other agents.
Artificial intelligence can be defined as an investigation of rational agents. A sensible agent could be anything that makes decisions, whether a person, company, machine, or software. It executes an action with the most effective result after considering both the past and the current percepts(agent's perceptions at the time of the event). An AI system is made up of one agent and its surroundings. The agents operate in their surroundings. The environment might include other agents. What is the difference between Environment and Agent?
A computer is anything capable of detecting its environment using sensors and acting upon the background using effectors.
- The Human being is equipped with sensory organs, such as eyes or ears, nose, tongue, and skin parallel to the sensors. Other organs like legs, hands, mouth, and legs also act as effectors.
- A robot agent replaces cameras and infrared rangefinders to detect sensors and various actuators and motors for effectors.
- The Software agent is encoded with bit strings to run its programs and activities.
Agent Terminology
- Performance Measurement for Agent: The standard defines how successful an agent can be.
- The behavior of an agent, the agent's behavior, is the act that an agent takes after a specific sequence of perceptions.
- Percept - It's then an agent's perceptual inputs in an instance.
- Percept Sequence It's the story of all the things an agent has seen up to the present.
- Agent Function - It's a map of Precept to Action.
Rationality
Rationality is the quality of being rational, sensible, and possessing an eminent sense of judgment.
Rationality is concerned with anticipated outcomes and actions based on the agent's perceptions. Conducting activities to obtain valuable information is an essential aspect of rationality.
What is an Ideal Rational Agent?
A rational agent can perform the expected actions to increase its performance following the -
- Its percept sequence
- Its built-in knowledge base
The following factors determine the rationality of an agent:
- The performance measures determine the extent of the success.
- Agent's Percept Sequence till now.
- A person's previous experience with his environment.
- The actions that an agent can perform.
A rational agent is always performing the correct action. The right action is the action that causes the agent to be the most successful in the particular perceptual sequence. The issue the agent has to solve is defined by the Performance Measure and Environment, Actuators, and sensors (PEAS ).
The Structure of Intelligent Agents
Agent's structure may be described as -
- Agent = Architecture + Agent Program
- Architecture refers to the equipment which an agent uses to execute its tasks.
- Agent Program is an application of the Agent function.
Simple Reflex Agents
- They make decisions only following the current perception.
- They are only rational when the right decision is taken solely using the current precept.
- Their surroundings are entirely accessible.
