This works in concert with PoE goods skill gems, which slot into parts of equipment and provide your character spells and skills to use in combat (unlike Diablo 3, that they do not have any given abilities). Items will frequently have multiple stone slots, and sometimes they're linked together. If I set a skill like Orb of Storms into a slot and then join it with Curse on Hit, Flammability and Vulnerability, each moment that my Orb of Storms strikes an enemy it will also apply both of those curses to them. It's essentially a highly robust spell-crafting system.

Nevertheless, it's when skill gems and the passive tree overlap that things get really exciting. Naturally, I have unlocked lots of nodes that boost fire damage, but a few major nodes possess these clever synergies that are really fun to unlock. Take Elemental Equilibrium for example, making enemies that I hit with elemental damage briefly get 25 percent immunity to those components and -50 percent immunity to other elements.

How can that be helpful to me? Well, as soon as an enemy is struck by Orb of Storms, they become more resistant to lightning damage but poorer to fire. And since Scorching Ray is a damage over time talent, it doesn't really "hit" an enemy, so I never risk making them immune to fire by accident. That is just one of a dozen little synergies my personality has poe currency buy. I've never been much of a concept crafter, but seeing my build slowly come together as I unlock more major nodes has been a rewarding experience.
