Today marks the auspicious appearance day of a very great female personality, namely Sita Devi, the consort of Lord Ram. Sita Devi, one of the most prominent personalities in the great epic Ramayan, is an epitome of pure love and devotion and an exemplary chaste wife. Her character and her pastimes set a great example and high standards for all women in today’s world, whether in the role of a daughter, wife, mother or in fact in any role at all. It also shows the strength pure-hearted women can have and is a good warning to everyone to never disrespect a respectable woman. The appearance of Devi Sita on this planet was truly extraordinary and was an indicator of her divinity. Sita, due to her having appeared during the ploughing of the earth, as the tip of a plough is called Sita in Sanskrit. 

Sita Appearance is celebrated on Navami Tithi during Gaura Paksha of Madhusudan (Vaishakha) month. It is believed that Goddess Sita was born on Tuesday in Pushya Nakshatra. Goddess Sita was married to Lord Rama who was also born on Navami Tithi during Gaura Paksha of Vishnu (Chaitra) month. On the ISKCON calendar Sita's Appearance falls after one month of Rama Navami. This month it is falling on 10th May 2022.

This day is also known as Sita Navami and Sita Jayanti. This year Shrimati Sita Devi Appearance day is falling on 10th May 2022.

Sita Mata is also known as Janaki as she was the adopted daughter of King Janaka of Mithila. Hence this day is also known as Janaki Navami. According to Hindu mythology, when King Janaka was ploughing the land to conduct a Yajna he found a baby girl in the Golden casket. The Golden casket was found inside the field while ploughing the land. A ploughed land is called Sita hence King Janaka named the baby girl Sita.
