Treatment programs make recovery possible. If your doctor or the counselor in charge of your case has recommended outpatient rehab, here are reasons why it’s the right option for you. Learn more about what you can expect once you enroll in the program. That will help you prepare for when you enter rehab.
What is Outpatient Treatment?
There are two types of drug rehabilitation treatment programs: inpatient and outpatient options. Inpatient programs require patients to stay at the facility until they complete the treatment. Outpatient care, though, allows patients to come and go to the facility for their sessions.
Why is Outpatient Right for Me?
- Flexible schedule. Not all patients have the luxury to seek treatment by spending weeks or months at a facility. If you have responsibilities and obligations to friends, family, or at work, and you can’t leave them behind, this is the best option for you. Outpatient care offers a flexible schedule, allowing you to get treated without compromising on your obligations and responsibilities.
- Affordable cost. Outpatient programs are more cost effective than residential or inpatient rehab programs. Rehab can be expensive, especially since addiction recovery requires ongoing treatment. If you’re looking to cut down on costs, outpatient treatment is ideal for your needs.
- Immediate application. You can apply the lessons and coping strategies you learn in an outpatient program right away. As soon as you leave the facility, you have opportunities to put those lessons to good use.
- Short-term rehab. If it hasn’t been long since you started abusing drugs, your withdrawal symptoms are likely to be light. If that’s the case, an outpatient treatment program is just what you need.
- Intensive option. Some rehab facilities also provide intensive outpatient programs, though. While patients still have the freedom to come and go for their sessions, they are required to spend a set number of hours at the facility for their treatment. Also, counselors tend to use a more intensive approach for patients who participate in this program. That makes it ideal for those who have already relapsed once or a few times.
How DO I Choose a Rehab Facility?
- What kind of accreditation or qualifications does the facility have? What about the staff? Are they experienced? What is their professional background? Can they provide the specialized care that the patients require?
- How long has the rehab been around? Any facility that’s only been around less than two years might not have the resources and experience you are looking for.
- Go over the services that the rehab facility offers. Not all recovery centers have dual diagnosis treatment. If you have also developed a mental disorder along with your addiction, you need an integrated care plan. If you choose a rehab facility that only treats your addiction, you’ll never make any progress. That’s because the mental disorder will compromise whatever recovery you manage.
- Is the facility near enough? You can show up for your treatments with ease. If you want to protect your privacy, though, ask about online options or look for a rehab facility that’s a bit farther from where you live.
